Strategy guide for Jim.Raynor (Raynor)
GIJoe members who excell with Raynor are: Hotrocks, Sphynx, Blue, WaytooDrunk and SmittyGFunk.
1) Starting Talents: Cunning, Fitness, Prodigy, Swiftness, Youth, Wealth. (Wealth allows you to start Goggles);
Additional Talents Worth Getting: Might (If you need help last hitting) ; DO NOT get: Integrity (Armor) - He is so squishy, this won't save you. Better to go full glass Cannon.
If you don't want to start with Goggles (significant money boost); you can start with Pendant and Might.
2) Order of Ability learning:
Talents:
Mark and Silence are your bread and butter spells. I like to start with marauders to help do initial creeps, as well as provide vision towards banks (prime defence)
Actual Order (W Q E E Q R E Q E Q R W W W Y R Y Y)
3) Item Builds.
Raynor is the longest range INT burst hero in the game. Maximizing his long range damage is key.
Build 1: Safety and Sustain
1) Goggles (Life + Money)
2) Lost Treasure (Energy Regen and Money)
3) Lightning Rod (Needed for Farming)
4) Gravity Edge (Your Key Item)
5) Symphonic Seed (Great CDR item)
6) Nitrogen Retrofit (Life and Slowing)
7) Yamato Reactor
8) Ihan Crystal (More INT and Life)
(6/7/8 can be done in the order you like)
Build 2: Less Sustain, Faster Grav
1) Goggles (Life + Money)
2) Lightning Rod (Needed for Farming)
3) Gravity Edge (Your Key Item)
4) Symphonic Seed (Great CDR item)
5) Nitrogen Retrofit (Life and Slowing)
6) Yamato Reactor
7) Ihan Crystal (More INT and Life)
Build 3: Fast Grav, very low sustain/money.
1) Goggles (Life + Money)
2) Gravity Edge (Your Key Item)
Etc
or
1) Pendant
2) Gravity Edge (Your Key Item)
Etc
Additional Items that work with Raynor:
If you dislike the fact that you have no escape: You can build Emantle, Impact Dial, Silversoul, lockbox (hydrater's style), warpshard
Any INT item adds to your damage output.
Star's Fury for more AA damage.
Energy Saber late, adds AA damage.
4) Notes on gameplay.
Raynor is basically a Glass Cannon. You really have to appreciate the role of a Glass Cannon (LITERALLY) to understand how to play this hero right. You might be the slowest squishiest hero in the game, and adding armour or speed to compensate for these weaknesses makes the entire hero weak. You pretty much have to embrace the fact that if someone "gets to you" you die. If you take that to heart, you will realize there is almost no where safe to walk on the map without having your marauders walk first, or buy wards to help see ganks coming. Basically stay near towers, or near your partner heroes. Alternatively the CANNON part of the glass cannon is what you excel at. Almost no burst hero does as much damage as Raynor. If you are positioned well, you will be silencing and killing almost anyone who has a bad encounter with your tank / puller / trapper heroes. Take advantage of combining with other heroes to deal out damage. Also try not to use your ult ONLY as a hero killer. You can cast it first, allowing your team to get the kill (since you will so badly injure them, it will induce a chase from your partners that otherwise may not have happened). Your Cooldowns are actually pretty low, so spamming the ult on people is not actually a bad way to go. But do not use the ult unless the target is marked. Not only does it increase the damage, it also provides vision which increases the range at which your ult can be fired.
Safety First with Raynor. He becomes very strong if you do not die with him. If you start dying, its a quick snowball into uselessness. Safety First. I can't stress that enough.
